, going to be a big push of rain and very wet, especially in central and northern california, southern oregon for the second half of the week. cold air remains to the north. high temperature, 30 degrees in minneapolis. that's going to be it. we're going to see quiet weather return to much of the east coast and the south. mild air building in. 70 degrees in dallas. 60 in kansas city. the west stays unsettled here as we'll see rain and snow through the higher elevations in idaho. quiet for most areas. 2/3 of the country will be quiet on friday. there will be a chance for showers around the lakes and parts of east texas and louisiana and the extreme southern portion of florida. saturday, still the west here going to stay unsettled and the great lakes with a chance of showers. northeast, highs in the low to mid 40s. mild if not warm in the south. houston to dallas, upper 70s. unsettled in the pacific northwest. on sunday, still more of the same for the west. still a chance for rain. this goes down to the central and southern parts of california, a chance of few showers. more rain

look ahead you can see the rain making its way from northern california all the way up into the pacific northwest. inland we're looking at mountain snow. these are rainfall amounts. anywhere from 6 to 10 inches of rain over the next 72 hours, just north of san francisco, into coastal oregon, so it is going to be wet. we're probably going to see some flooding before this is all out. that's what's going on around >>> 7:38. good morning to you. we've got quite a bit of low cloud cover but we're looking good right at the immediate surface. you can actually see the roadway over most of the bay area this morning. our temperatures are going to be comfortable today but i really want to spend some time on your seven-day outlook and show you what's to come. this is your last dry day before the heavy rain arrives wednesday into thursday. we're going to get periods of rain. thursday the wind continues, getting pockets of rain in the north bay and the heaviest rain arrives on friday. >> and that's your latest weather. savannah had. >> all right, al. thanks. coming up next, more with legendar

yourself up this morning. definitely areas of northern california through oregon, washington state, cold air mass has settled in. temperatures in the 30s, typical for this time of year. nothing too brutal. the windchill is not bad either. the storm we're talking about, it's rotating and spinning around itself out here. one big storm went to the north heading just south of alaska. there's a couple other little pieces underneath it. slowly but surely all this mess will kick in to the west as we go through the next 48 hours. you can see the high, thin clouds sneaking into california, oregon and washington state. a huge area of high pressure tries to hold on for at least one more day. it's going to be a slow-moving system. once it starts raining on wednesday, a couple impulses that come onshore. then it looks like a three or four-day event and should kick out. the next 48 hours, notice the rainfall bullseye is here, central and northern california. again, that's 48 hours away. that will really add up when i show you the map tomorrow. today's forecast, enjoy it while itthe afternoon a l

area later on today. the storm system right now driving clouds into the whole state of california. all of california north of los angeles going to get slammed as we head through the next few days so you want to keep that in mind. this morning we're on fog watch, but the fog is not quite as extensive or widespread as it was yesterday. it's not as thick out there. we'll show you where it's the thickest, when it will clear. what i can tell you is this is the last dry day to get things done before we get four to five consecutive days of rain. we'll take you to that forecast, that's coming up. first let's check your drive, mike has the day off. anthony slaughter in the house. >> we are talking about that fog as one of our main stories, but you can see in the south bay things are moving along smoothly. in the north bay is where we have the problems. on the traffic maps you can see across 80 and 101 into san rafael and also into vallejo. that's where we're seeing thicker patches of fog this morning. otherwise we don't have any major traffic concerns to let you know about right now but as

the north bay. this map here helps break it down. the california breast cancer mapping project found portions of san mateo, santa clara and alameda counties had breast cancer rates that were 10% to 20% higher than the state average from 2000 to 2008. these higher-than-average rates were also found in slices of sonoma, napa and solano counties. however, the study does not list a cause for these rates, but it's long been known breast cancer risk factors include everything from drinking alcohol daily to taking certain hormone replacements. and this behavior tends to be common among higher income women, which, of course, the bay area does have. still, the study does not say this correlation is in fact the cause of the higher breast cancer rates that we're seeing in the study. so if you're a woman living in the bay area, what do you make of the study? first of all, don't forget breast cancer can be genetic and doctors also worry about certain environmental factors. more reasons for us women to practice good breast care and that includes staying current on our mammograms. jon. >> tha
